एक समय था जब दुनियाभर भर के जंगलों में करीब 1,00,000 बाघ राज किया करते थे लेकिन 21वीं सदी तक आते-आते इनकी संख्या चार हजार से भी से कम रह गई। यही वजह है कि हर साल पूरी दुनिया में आज यानी 29 जुलाई के दिन वर्ल्ड टाइगर डे मनाया जाता है। इस दिन को मनाने का उद्देश्य बाघों की विलुप्त हो रहीं प्रजातियों को बचाना और उनके संरक्षण के लिए लोगों में जागरूकता फैलाना है।
